Fairtrade fortnight at QUB
Fairtrade fortnight ran from the 25th of February to the 5th of March. QUB and QUB SU hosted a number of events to celebrate the fortnight. Check out the pictures below to find out more!
Talking Drums performed at our annual Fairtrade coffee morning in the Great Hall, the group performed traditional Zimbabwean music. Staff and students enjoyed free Fairtrade tea and coffee (generously sponsored by Bewley's) and yummy Fairtrade chocolate shortbread. Donations were taken on behalf of Oxfam.

A student gets on the Action Renewables bike to make a Fairtrade smoothie in the Students' Union. Fruit for the smoothies was kindly donated by the Co-Op. The Smoothie bike caught the attention of UTV and local radio, which really helped to increase the media profile of our campaign.
Students also got involved in Fairtrade fortnight by attending a Fairtrade Father Ted event hosted by the QUB Greens society. Great laughs, and plenty of biscuits, tea, coffee, etc were had by all!

The Students' Union new Enterprise centre hosted two Fairtrade events. The first of which was in conjunction with Business in the community, with 20 local businesses attending to sign a Fairtrade pledge. We were joined by two Fairtrade producers- Luis (a cocoa producer from Belize) and Yayah (a trade unionist from Tanzania) who told local business people bout the amazing impact of Fairtrade has on their communities lives.
The second event was held in conjunction with Divine. Lots of delicious Fairtrade chocolate and wine was available to taste. We heard from Divine workers who live in Ghana about the unique business model that the company operates. We also heard from the UK sales manager about the logistics and dramatic increase in Fairtrade chocolate sales.

All in all we had a very busy, and very successful, Fairtrade fortnight. We hope to build on this in the future! So thank you for your continued support!
